Amelia Earhart Lockheed 5B Vega Original Flown Fabric Linen Sample Artifact

Description: This listing is for an original artifact from Amelia Earhart's customized Lockheed 5B Vega. The artifact measures approximately .5" across, and it's been mounted to an 8x10" photo for display. This item also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity listing its provenance. On May 20-21, 1932, Earhart flew her 5B Vega from Newfoundland to Ireland, becoming the first woman (and the only person since Charles Lindbergh) to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. A few months later, she became the first woman to pilot a nonstop solo flight across the United States, in the same 5B Vega. The following year, Earhart upgraded to the newer 5C Vega and sold her historic 5B to the Franklin Institute (a science museum in Philadelphia). After several decades, The Smithsonian acquired it in 1966. Before being displayed in the Air and Space Museum, the plane was fully restored. During the restoration process, worn and damaged pieces were removed. Robert C. Strobell, the Associate Curator of the museum, sent a large section of outer fuselage fabric to noted aviation collector Robert Boehme. After Boehme's death, his artifacts were sold to Ron Cole, the owner of an aviation museum and art gallery in Ohio. The piece for sale here was taken from a larger piece sold by Cole in 2023. The COA accompanying this item includes photos of the original artifact, along with photos of your specific piece being removed from it. Please note that I have several of these for sale, and so you may not receive the exact item in the photos. However, you will receive one of an equivalent size, with the same type of documentation. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for viewing this listing!
