Description: Amazing Genuine Victorian Royal Navy Rum Ration Issue Tub or Barrel (c.1890) This came to me missing all of its original letters but after calculating the amount of holes left behind by their removal, it transpires that it had the word “Queen” originally to the exterior. With that knowledge combined with the patina and age, it leads me heavily towards a Victorian era Rum tub. With the thanks of Mark at Trinity Marine, we sourced a correct set of replacement letters, which have been polished and fitted with new but old brass screws. It has also been modified (c.1910) at some stage with a hinged door, which works & fits perfectly, has a period knob and fitted with interior shelves for the rum cups. The lid is original with its brass star and the barrel bands are made in forged steel, painted black. It stands 18”H x 19” in diameter at the base tapering to 15” at the top. The interior & exterior patina to the wood is incredible and everything a Victorian Rum Tub should look like but because of its minor issues and originality, it will be priced accordingly.
