Description: Edinburgh Picturesque Notes Robert Louis StevensonAlvin Langdon Coburn 1954 Edition Edinburgh Picturesque Notes. Text by Robert Louis Stevenson. Photographs by Alvin Langdon Coburn. Original Edition. With Twenty three photographs by Alvin Langdon Coburn and a Preface by Janet Adam Smith. Rupert Hart-Davis, London. United Kingdom. 1954. First edition thus. Small quarto. Original cloth. With the very scarce dust jacket. 107 pp. + interspersed plates. A lovely edition, printed on cream paper by the Chiswick Press and a beautiful amalgam of Stevenson's writings and Coburn's photographs.Coburn took most of these photographs of Edinburgh Scotland in 1905, and later said that he had tried to see the city through Stevenson's eyes; it took almost half a century until the informal project took book form. The pictorial, atmospheric sensibility that was in vogue at the turn-of-the-century is apparent in many of his perfectly composed images. Still an under-appreciated Coburn book. Very good in a good plus dust jacket. Boards, with light wear. Contents clean. Couple of minor spots of foxing to the first few text pages. Binding tight. Beautiful photography. Scattered very light foxing to the fore edges. DJ lightly soiled and rubbed w/ light wear and a tiny tear at the top edge. Few spots of foxing to the DJ covers. Price clipped. Now mylar protected. A very nice copy.
