Description: 'Divination in The Tea Leaves' by Alfred Laurens Brennan; 1853-1921, American painter, etcher and illustrator, Brennan studied art at the University of Cincinnati School of Design. He moved to Philadelphia and worked with Frank Duveneck. Alfred Brennan then settled in New York in 1879. He also illustrated a number of children's books. This etching is bright and unfaded with excellent detail and plate tone in dark brown ink, the image size measuring approximately 14 cm x 20 cm (5½ x 8 ins.) within a strong platemark and impression on fine cream chine colle applique on an early wove paper sheet size of 25 cm x 35 cm (9½ x 13½ ins.) Signed and dated in the image. Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
