Alexander Kelly McClure (1828-1909) worked as a newspaper publisher and a lawyer, and was active in Republican politics. In the 1860s he invested in western mining, and as a representative of the Philadelphia-based Montana Gold and Silver Mining Company, he traveled and worked as superintendent of the mill that was built with company funds on the Oro Cache vein in Montana Territory.
