Description: Our Spacelab70 Gallery Lithograph & Print Sale ALEXANDER CALDER (1898-1976) A VERY RARE ORIGINAL STONE LITHOGRAPH "Flying Dragon" 1976 Printer: George Goodstadt INITIAL-SIGNED IN THE STONEAC(ALEXANDER CALDER) (There were no COA documents or gallery documents with this item when we acquired it from a private collection, hence it is sold as is.) ALEXANDER CALDER was an American engineer who became a successful SCULPTOR, PAINTER and PRINTMAKER. He is most well-known for his highly innovative MOBILES: colorful, suspended, metal Kinetic Sculptures, kept in motion by varying natural air-currents. He also created his STABILES: larger, heavier, grounded, non-moving sculptures. By the 1960s to 1970s Calder became America's most known and greatest sculptor, his work easily recognizable by his choice of using only vibrant primary colors in the majority of his work. This is a rare INITIAL-SIGNED late-1970s CALDER STONE-LITHOGRAPH on thick white paper. It is especially SIGNIFICANT because it is the VERY LAST WORK by Alexander Calder. Tragically, he DIED in November, 1976, just a few days before the scheduled PENCIL HAND-SIGNING of this colorful LIMITED EDITION STONE-LITHOGRAPH, entitled: "Flying Dragon." This is a LIMITED EDITION of ONLY 100 COPIES, which are all considered "ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPHS" as after the run is completed, the various flat STONES (one for each color used) are then washed off (or sometimes even broken up) so no more "Originals" can be made. The resulting lithographs each bear the INK INITIAL-SIGNATURE: AC, with the two letters intertwined, made by Calder when he painted with the special chemicals on the flat stones, prior to the application of the brightly-colored inks. The whole, thick, white paper-sheet measures: 35 1/2" x 21 1/4" (90 cm x 54 cm). Blank on the verso and currently unframed. In GOOD CONDITION with just a faint vertical discoloration on the left edge of the paper only. A VERY RARE and highly-desirable LATE-20th CENTURY, HAND-SIGNED, ORIGINAL COLOR LITHOGRAPH. We have discounted it further by a TOTAL of ANOTHER $500 OFF of the already lowered Sale Price! This FINAL LITHOGRAPH by Alexander Calder normally sells for in excess of $2,500. It is SO RARE there are virtually no more left available for sale anywhere! We are fortunate to have secured this one, single, original stone lithograph. This particular "Flying Dragon" litho by Calder is almost impossible to find as virtually all 100 are in private collections or museums. This is the only one we have handled in over 25 years and we doubt we will come across another. They hardly ever come to market. This FINAL WORK is the RAREST of all CALDER LITHOGRAPHS and we are very pleased to offer it for sale on eBay. Essential for the Calder Completist! Offered as a "BUY-IT-NOW" item or make us a BEST OFFER if you prefer. Please also take a look at some of our OTHER paintings, lithographs, drawings and art objects from the early to mid-twentieth century listed on eBay this week. Thank you! Spacelab70 Gallery
