Description: Up for sale is a copy of an album of sheet music - VERBORGENHEIT - Hugo Wolf. Hugo Philipp Jacob Wolf (13 March 1860 – 22 February 1903) was an Austrian composer of Slovene origin, particularly noted for his art songs, or Lieder. He brought to this form a concentrated expressive intensity which was unique in late Romantic music, somewhat related to that of the Second Viennese School in concision but diverging greatly in technique. Verborgenheit Composed: March 13, 1888Music: Hugo Wolf (1860-1903)Words: Eduard Mörike (1804-1875) Verborgenheit (clandestineness, concealment) remains one of Wolf’s most popular songs. He, in fact, composed it on his 28th birthday! Repeated listenings to this song with the poetry in hand make deepest impressions. The poem is deep, dark, hopeful, and laden with truth. “Oh world, let me be, entice me not with gifts of love. Let this heart in solitude have, Your bliss, your pain!” While the first two stanzas stay quieter, by the third stanza we’re reaching an exploding fortissimo. Following it’s climax and resolution we’re back where we started - “Oh world, let me be.” The artistry of Hugo Wolf is undeniable. Building on the tradition of Schubert, Schumann, Loewe, and Wagner, Wolf’s songs became the greatest example of the fusion of poetry and music into a single artistic expression. Wolf himself called his songs “poems for voice and piano.” Wolf composed around 250 songs, each one displaying his unique talent for bringing poetry and music together. The album includes 40 parts: 1 - Orchestra = Score4 - Basso2 - Oboe2 - Clarinetto2 - Fagotto4 - Corno8 - I. Violin7 - II Violin5 - Viola5 - Violoncello Each of the 40 parts are bound in a different booklet. Each booklet is approximately 10 1/2" x 14 1/2". The covers of the booklets have wear - browning, creases, chips and stains. The edges are very delicate and chip easily when handled. Internally, the sheet music has some wear and age related browning. Some musical notes and writing can be found on some of the music sheets. All of the booklets are together in a legal sized cardboard binding (not attached). Other dings here and there. Please email with questions and see my store for other great items. R-Box 128
