Description: Albrecht Durer The Sea Monster Reichsdruckerei Heliogravure. Trimmed crudely outside the platemark, something I've long resisted correcting. Beautiful impression, sharp lines yet richly printed. On light tan paper with some staining on reverse. Please see photos. Printed image: about 9.5” tall x 7.3”; Sheet: 10.125” x 7.8” Shipped in archival glassine in a rigid mailer. Thank you for looking. I hope you’ll check out my other items, and have a wonderful day! Similar to what Amand Durand accomplished with his heliogravures in the 19th Century, the Reichsdruckerei in Berlin photo-etched copper plates of outstanding Renaissance intaglio impressions. Etching the lines into copper plates with stunning precision, they then inked, wiped, and printed them on an intaglio press. Because the images were taken directly from exceptional early impressions and etched to hold ink and print 3-dimensionally like the originals, these facsimiles are remarkably convincing in a way that would be impossible with offset.
