Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. Item specifics are: Film 1: Alaska's Silver Millions (1936) B&W Runtime 33 Minutes Geography of Alaska, the life cycle of the salmon, the salmon industry, operation of the canneries and life of the fishermen's community. With commentary by Father Bernard Hubbard, the "glacier priest." Directed by Beverly Jones. Release Date: 1936 Entered Public Domain: 1965 Film 2: Alaska: A Modern Frontier (Revised edition) (1948) COLOR Runtime 10 Minutes A more simplified overview of what Alaska has to offer. (A much better film is Alaska's Silver Millions) Film briskly goes over many points, carefully to point out the New Alaska first, with it's farming, fishing and transportation benefits, and THEN briskly go over Eskimo life. Interesting to see the ramshackle structures of the University, which looks hopelessly unstable. Film ends on a hopeful note, as the music swells and the narrator says to look out for the Youth in Alaska, who will lead the way. Release Date: 1948 Entered Public Domain: 1977 Film 3: Alaska Settling A New Frontier (1967) B&W Runtime 21 Minutes This film is a documentary on the mineral wealth and public lands of Alaska, including the Indian tribes and bush pilots who lived and worked there. Release Date: 1967 Entered Public Domain: 1996 Film 4: Eskimos: Winter in Western Alaska (1950) COLOR Runtime 8 Minutes This is quite an engrossing little movie that seemed to have a BAD edit at the end, keeping us in suspense. This is the documentation of a typical Eskimo family surviving in Western Alaska. We see how the women cook, the children learn, and most fascinatingly, how the men hunt. ingenious ways of trapping fish are shown. Soon, the father of the family goes out to hunt for a seal, he puts his boat into the water and the narrator says "But Look!" and the film ends with a "The End!" (This is actually quite amusing) What happens? Did he catch a seal? We may NEVER KNOW... Release Date: 1950 Entered Public Domain: 1979 Film 5: Eskimo Hunters (Northwestern Alaska) (1949) B&W Runtime 20 Minutes First person narrative describing the lives of Eskimos on the coast of Alaska. Release Date: 1949 Entered Public Domain: 1978 Film 6: Moving North (1955) COLOR Runtime 25 Minutes This film very briefly talks about the subject of moving, but this is mostly a travelogue about the many beautiful things about Alaska. Narrated by the neighbors apparently, the film sees the couple and their kid off on a cab, then instantly talks about the many cities and touristy things one can do there. Release Date: 1955 Entered Public Domain: 1984 Film 7: The Iceless Arctic (1932) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Another great Alaska film, this time made by an apparent clueless tourist going there expecting to find snow and ice the minute they cross the border, only to be disappointed with all the greenery, Actually is quite interesting him explaining some of the odd quirky people and their tales, and the film briefly talks about the salmon trade.
