Scale length 654mm Nut width 51mm Fan bracing Hard shell case by tkl How long have you owned this instrument? : I bought this guitar in 2008 from Fine Fretted Instruments in Amherst Ma. ( I think they are now called Fine Fretted Workshop). Alan built it for his friend and neighbor, the owner of Fine Fretted Instruments, in 2005. I visited the Fine Fretted Instruments store in 2008 to try some of the Chapman guitars that he had in stock at that time, I also went to Alan Chapmans work shop, which is just down the road, to chat with Alan and to see what else he had available. I tried a Smallman copy which was very good but was very heavy and spoke to him about the 2005. He told me that he had built it using the best woods that he had available at the time, namely German spruce and Brazilian rosewood. I had one concern about two knots in the back of the guitar, which he told me were cleated at the time of construction. If you look closely at the photo of the back you maybe able to see them and also the indentation of the interior cleats. They have remained stable all the time I have owned this guitar and with a bit of polish are barely visible. So I returned to the Fine Fretted Instruments store to play the 2005 some more, fell in love with it, and ended up buying it instead of waiting the two years, (I think that was the waitlist time back then), to have Alan build me one. The guitar was essentially new when I bought it having not been played. 2. What is the action height 1st and 12th? Approx 1mm on 6th string at 1st and 5mm on 6th @ 12th measuring from top of fret. Never had a problem with buzzing. 3. What strings are currently on it? La Bella 2001 normal tension nylon, they have been on for a few months. In the past I have used Gali carbonara strings which I liked very much, and also Hannabach Goldin carbon strings and Hannabach nylon strings. All the videos on my YouTube channel, until three years ago, were made using this guitar. I moved away from carbon strings as I felt the were almost too resonant with this guitar, but the earlier videos were all recorded with carbon strings, not sure if it would be noticeable over YouTube. 4. Lesser points? I noticed that the fret end bevels were not completely smooth so I had a respected luthier take a look and he polished them down a little. He also examined the guitar inside and out and was very impressed with the quality of workmanship and materials. He did measure the thickness of the top and found it to be quite thin which is a good thing in terms of sound but maybe not the best for extra high tension strings. I must say that I never envisioned selling this guitar and have really enjoyed playing it over the years. However I had an opportunity to purchase a very nice Italian guitar a few years ago and now find myself neglecting the Chapman.
