Description: APOLLO 15. Apollo 15 was the fourth manned moon landing mission from July 26 to August 7, 1971 with Commander David Scott, Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin, and Command Module Pilot Alfred Worden aboard. It was distinguished for having a longer stay time on the moon, greater surface mobility with the first use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and more focus on science than earlier landings. AL WORDEN’S FLOWN CIRCULAR STAR CHART CARRIED INTO LUNAR ORBIT ABOARD THE COMMAND MODULE ENDEAVOUR DURING THE APOLLO 15 MISSION Al Worden’s flown circular star chart carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Endeavour during the Apollo 15 mission. Accompanied with a signed letter of authenticity from Worden, “I hereby certify that this Circular Star Chart was used by me during the training period for the flight of Apollo 15 and was carried on the flight as a resource to identify the navigation stars if needed. We used some 37 stars for navigation and there were times when it was difficult to identify even the most important stars.” Contains markings in Worden’s hand all over, features numerous stars and constellations printed in black on a translucent white chronopaque material, legend reads “Prepared by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, United States Air Force, for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Feb. 1967,” marked on the verso in black felt tip by Worden “MSC 991-0001.46B,” measures 9.25 inches in diameter, and in very fine condition with only light staining. CONTAINS MARKINGS IN WORDEN’S HAND ALL OVER AND ACCOMPANIED WITH A SIGNED LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FROM WORDEN, “I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THIS CIRCULAR STAR CHART WAS USED BY ME DURING THE TRAINING PERIOD FOR THE FLIGHT OF APOLLO 15 AND WAS CARRIED ON THE FLIGHT AS A RESOURCE TO IDENTIFY THE NAVIGATION STARS IF NEEDED.” Flown Apollo star charts are virtually unobtainable with only a handful having been made available for sale and two from Dave Scott’s collection recently sold for $24,500 in June 2017 and $18,528 in April 2018 at RR Auction.
