Jacques a S Pierre pres la rue de la parcheminerie 1774" Large unusual antique copper engraved map of Africa, by Jean-Baptiste Crépy (1730 -1796).A large allegorical cartouche, copied on a copper engraved view of Huquier from Lajoue, but whose symbolic elements relate to America. In upper left side "Africa is divided into Septent.le and Méridionale".The map extends from Cape Verd Islands to northern India. We can see Brazil, very close to Africa. According to a note in left side of the map, it has been drawn from the informations of Jesuits, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese. The coasts of the map were engraved according to the Marine charts of the Comte de Maurepas, Secretary of State for the Navy of Louis XV. Size with margins : 70,8 x 54,7 cm / 27,5 x 21,2 inch Condition : good condition, in colors, paper with the watermark of a Maltese cross encircled in rosary beads.
