Description: American Encaustic Tiling Co., Los Angeles, CA 1919-1933 AET's west coast plant made this talc-bodied tile, which looks interesting on the diagonal. Although it was part of a large image, it is rather nice on its own. Glaze is glossy black with raised lines creating the patterns. Measures 6" x 6" x 3/8" thick. Signed, never set. Great condition. Last photo shows this pattern with colored glazes, taken from Norman Karlson's Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles. Listed other solid black tiles by AET and Pomona.
