Description: A special and fantastic tea/coffee service by Pairpoint Mfg. Compnay of Massachusetts. They produced high end items for the well appointed home from 1880-1894. Those years happened to be the height of the “Aesthetic Movment”. This movement combined the ornate beauty of Victorian period design with Japanese design and the influence of the natural world. This tea service couldn’t exemplify this movement any better. The ornate border along the bottom of the pieces and the handles really show the Japanese influence. The pieces are in excellent condition minus dust. They could use a good polish but otherwise they are in better condition than you’d expect for being around 150 years old. They were just acquired from the estate of an intellectual African American family that resided in the Boston/Cambridge, MA area since that period. I assume they were the original owners. A very special set that is going to display incredibly well. The Pairpoint Mfg. Co. pattern number is 306. Many of the pieces in this pattern had typical fussy Victorian floral scroll work engraved into the blank fields between the bottom border and their tops. While this is pretty it makes for a very “busy/fussy” look. This set escapes that fate and I feel it’s better off for it. While they are definitely ornate they do not cross the line into busy or fussy. They will fit better into a modern home than others of this pattern. Shipping will be asap! Thanks
