Description: Antique Advertising Stoneware Monmouth-Western Rolling Pin Rust Band BOHLING CLAUSEN LEONARD CO. - Glidden, IOWA Advertising stoneware rare triple rust banded rolling pin made by Western Stoneware Company located in Monmouth, Illinois for the Bohling - Clausen - Leonard Co. in Glidden, Iowa. According to the "Western Stoneware Co. Factory Orders For Stenciled Advertising Rolling Pins 1915-1953" catalog, the store received their order of 337 of these rolling pins on November 24th, 1915. How many of these pins that actually survived is unknown. However, through research it appears that this is very a scarce one and rarely offered. 5 Line Advertisement Reads: COMPLIMENTS OF BOHLING - CLAUSEN - LEONARD CO. EVERYBODYS STORE A GOOD PLACE TO TRADE Phone 90, GLIDDEN, IOWA Condition: In good antique condition. Pin has some pottery hairlines on the front that appear like fine pencil marks. These hairlines do not affect the structure of the pin in any way and the pin feels sturdy. One edge has the common stilt marks which appear like small chips or scuffs but are actually natural from the making (see pictures #11-12). On the advertising there is a small natural glaze skip by were it reads "Leonard". There is crazing throughout the pin from age. No other noted flaws. Wooden handles have a nice aged patina and function properly. However, the handles are screwed on tightly so we did not remove them to inspect any further. If there are any other flaws/imperfections on the stoneware such as glaze/paint skips and glaze pops etc. they are natural from the making. Comes as seen/is/made.
