Description: Up for bid is a wonderful Victorian trade card for New Home Sewing Machines. When you supersize image 1 you will see lithographic illustration of actress Mary Anderson. Mary Anderson (1859-1940) was a leading classical actress of her era. She was born in Sacramento, California, but soon moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where her father enlisted in the Confederate Army. He was killed in the American Civil War when she was just three years old. She made her acting debut in an 1875 production of Romeo and Juliet. She toured the United States in the years that followed, portraying romantic heroines Julia in The Hunchback and Pauline in The Lady of Lyons. SOURCE: National Museum of American History When you supersize image 2 you can see that the back of the card has information aboout this product that was offered for sale at the end of the 19th century.
