Description: Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy Paramount Pictures "proof" photograph from the lost silent film drama/romance A SAINTED DEVIL, released in 1924 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Joseph Henabery. Rudolph Valentino stars as a nobleman who seeks to rescue his bride (Helena D'Algy) after she has been kidnapped by his former lover (Nita Naldi) and a bandit (George Siegmann). The image features an exterior long shot in the exterior courtyard of the lavish home of Don Alonzo Castro (Rudolph Valentino) as he fights with another man while two other men surround him on either side as a man lies dead on the bottom of the stairway and an older woman watches. This photograph was printed for the film's original 1924 US theatrical release by Paramount Pictures. As this is a "proof" photograph, it features thin irregular black borders along instead of the uniform white borders. It has been trimmed to approximately 7.5 x 9.75 inches. Excluding the trim, it is in fine- condition with a 2 in. long by 0.75 in. wide area of light vertical waves in the top right corner; a 0.25 in. vertical tear on the top border immediately to the right of the face of the woman; a light and unobtrusive 2 in. diagonal crease near the center of the right border in the background; two small creases on the bottom right corner; and a 0.5 in. horizontal crease on the center of the left border. There are no pinholes, stains, or other flaws and the image quality is razor-sharp with very fine detail and beautiful contrast. According to the "Guinness Book of Film Facts and Feats," this was the first feature film to be shot with a motorized camera. A Sainted Devil is a lost silent film, as no prints are known to exist.
