Description: Listing is a large fabulous first edition hardcover book from the Centennial Series of the Association of Former Students, Texas A&M University. The book is entitled A Pictorial History of Texas A&M University, 1876-1976, and is credited to the works of Henry C. Dethloff. This book contains vintage pictures of A&M's first 100 years. It is truly a history book of A&M's life as a university, but it is not strictly a pictorial either. Although it is a combination of A&M's history from both a verbal and a pictorial viewpoint, it concentrates more on the pictorial side. And while the vintage photographs are obviously black-and-white, the more recent photographs are in color. (And when I say more "recent" photographs, I am talking about 45-50 years ago, because this book was copyrighted in 1975.) There are so many vintage pictures that are truly priceless. For example, photo # 9 above is a picture of A&M's first band in 1894. Photo # 8 shows the Corps of Cadets assembled in front of Old Main in about 1878. Photo # 10 above shows the first student body of the new college in 1876. And photo # 11 above shows Governor and Mrs. Sul Ross with the Ross Volunteers in front of Old Main in 1895. Although I did not include the picture of the first football team of A&M in 1894, I did include a picture of the first Aggie football team to defeat the University of Texas in 1902. Please see photo #13 above. The book is rich with early photos of baseball teams, basketball teams, tennis teams, track teams, etc. And old photos of Aggie greats like Jarrin' John Kimbrough, Paul "Bear" Bryant, Homer Norton, Gene Stallings, etc., grace the 232 pages in this book. Of course one can find a photo of the great Aggie National Championship football team of 1939. And I even found an old photograph of former MLB star Wally Moon when he was playing basketball for Texas A&M. It shows A&M Aggies how they participated in the World Wars. And has pictures of F. D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and other U. S. presidents as they visited A&M on one occasion or another. Truly a great book capturing the wonderful history of the Aggies' first 100 years! It's in excellent condition, pages are all in tact, clean, and unmarked upon, and is a blessing to use as both an entertainment and resource tool for the Texas Aggie. This great book measures approximately 8.75 inches by 11 1/4 inches. And, to reiterate, a first edition and autographed by the author from almost 50 years ago. What a find! Thank you for viewing my EBAY auction item. (Please note: I do not ship internationally.) God bless.
