Description: This painting on a flat surface plate(maybe marble) is a miniature copy of the Madonna della Sedia (also Seggiola) by the great High Renaissance painter Raphael. The back is stamped with the fleur de lis Firenze (Florence) logo; in addition, there are remnants of old paper labels supportive of provenance and age - from the 1920's. The painting is in very good condition, visually whole and intact. The art work is set on carved reticulated foliate giltwood frame. Classic Italian Rococo style. The frame is in very good to excellent condition - no breaks on the wood, minimum wear & loss of paint over the leaf protrusions and tips. The painting has never been taken off the frame. The Y back stand is quite firm and well attached; the nails are original and there is no sign that they have been replaced or moved. The painting is 3 5/8" in diameter (9 1/2 cms); the frame is app 7" in diameter.This painting of the Madonna features Mother & Child & the infant John (the Baptist), the Lord's cousin. To many lovers of Renaissance ecclesiastical art, this portrait of the Madonna by Rafael is the most adorable most endearing representation of the Virgin Mother. The original according to internet sources is permanently exhibited at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
