Description: A Henry H Hunt Kwakiutl Northwest Coast Carved Wood Pugwus Beaver? Mask Signed For your consideration is this wonderful carved mask by renowned master carver Henry Herbert Hunt, more commonly known as Henry Hunt, Jr. From a website I found in a google search: Henry Hunt Jr., a member of the Kwakiulth First Nation, was born in 1950 into one of the most important and worldwide known Family of master carvers. He is the son of the famous and historically important Henry Hunt and he spent lots of time carving with his brother Tony Hunt - both well-known and important master carvers. Henry is a true master carver by heart himself and you can clearly see the love for the traditional art of authentic First Nations Kwakwaka'wakw carving. He originates from Fort Rupert, a small village on Vancouver Island on the Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia, Canada. From prior auction records on, I believe this is a mask of a Pugwus ("man of the sea") although it may possibly be a beaver. It is in overall excellent preowned condition with no significant issues to note. There are a few minor marks/scuffs which have been pictured. Mask measures about 7-1/8” tall x 6” wide x 5” deep. It is signed as shown. FYI, a similar mask by him sold at a live auction in British Columbia in 2015 for $1700 CDN. It will weigh about 3lbs packed safely. A handling fee for full insurance and signature delivery has been added. Local pickup near Boston can be arranged. Thank you!
