Description: NORMAN ROCKWELL (1894-1978) An American painter and illustrator is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades. Today his works have a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell created over 4,000 original works and illustrated more than 40 books in his lifetime. Among those books were the successful Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He also painted portraits of several US Presidents. The most famous being President Kennedy. At one time, Rockwell held the title for most expensive American painting ever sold. Before his death, Rockwell helped establish the safekeeping of his work. The Norman Rockwell Museum was established near his home in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
