Description: About this shell:Cypraeidae Naria ErosaAuthor: Linnaeus, 1758Common Name: Gnawed/Eroded/Erose CowrySize: 41.13 mmLocality: Prony Bay, New CaledoniaOrigins: Traded with F. Walker - May 1978. Collected live on rocks, 1-5 meters deep - Jan 1978 This is a beautiful rostrated top choice specimen that we have had in our family collection for nearly 50 years. This specimen has a base that is broad, thick and swollen - superb color, pattern, gloss and shape. This is part of our late father’s large collection of seashells he obtained while stationed on Okinawa, Japan in 1974-1978. His interests in shells grew from more than the Indo-Pacific species when he engaged in trading his shells with some of theprominent collectors around the world. He was an avid scuba diver and seashell collector. The results of many deepdives led to the creation of a collection of some of the best shells Okinawa had to offer. Ted’s shells have been cared for and stored for the past 50 years. All are in excellent condition. My sister and I are listingshells after researching them for value, quality and uniqueness. We are not conchologists and are giving our opinion onthe condition and quality of the shell when compared to other listings. Thanks for considering this shell. More of Ted's shells can be found at shells4you.
