Midwest regional baseball card issued 1975 by the Great Plains Sports Collectors Association in cooperation with Sheraton Inn Card #7 - JACOB PETER (JAKE) BECKLEY ~ Pittsburgh Pirates, Alleghenys & Burghers, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals & New York Giants This card was inspired by the Great Plains Sports Collectors Association and was distributed primarily in Iowa. Well done in every respect, the issue is attractive (front and back) and includes an excellent biographical and statistical sketch of each player on the reverse. Card size is a bit larger than current standard at 2-5/8" by approximately 3-3/4". Cards of this size fit best in 8-pocket collector pages or Vintage Card Size TopLoaders. This card would be a great addition to a team, Type card or favorite player collection. About the subject: Jake Beckley, a longtime (since 1971) member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, played 9 of his 20 big league years in Pittsburgh with the Alleghenys (later Pirates) and including the single season Players Association with the Burghers. He amassed 2,938 base hits which included an astonishing 244 three-base hits, averaging .308.
