Description: Corvette 1961-1962 horn set. This set is an original 441/442 matched pair as installed on late-1961 thru early-1962 production C1 Corvettes at the Flint Assembly Plant. This set has been remanufactured by The Horn Works, Beloit, WI. An optional ONE YEAR REPLACEMENT/REFUND GUARANTEE is included by the Seller at no additional cost. The horn set in this listing meets the National Corvette Restorers Society(NCRS) description of "original" 1961/1962 Corvette 441/442 horns. These horns have been disassembled and cleaned, operating components restored/replaced and re-assembled with correct rivets and assembly techniques. A correct high quality black gloss finish was applied. This horn set has been tested and is ready for restoration projects where authentic "original" horns, as installed on the Corvette assembly line, are required. Buyer satisfaction is guaranteed, and no questions return accepted within 14 days. Various 61-62 key identifying features are shown in listing pictures of the actual horns offered. These pictures are consistent with descriptions and pictures provided on page 95 of the NCRS 1961-62 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide. As specified by NCRS, 61/62 Corvette horns are identified by: a die cast main body with a riveted stamped steel rear-cover; cast or stamped markings which include "441", " 442", "12V" "MODEL" and "Delco, MADE IN USA, Remy". These markings are correctly positioned on the listed horns as described by NCRS. It is noteworthy that these horns do not have a stamped DELCO assembly date on either horn. This further identifies these horns as 61L-62E since assembly dates were not used by DELCO until mid-62 car production. Another important identifying feature pictured is the 'reinforced ribs' on the back cover. A Delco improved rear horn cover was introduced as a running change to 441/442 horns in mid-1961. Early 1961 Corvettes had smooth flange rear horn bodies WITHOUT the reinforced ribs. Since "ribbed" rear covers did not exist prior to mid-61 corvette production, they are not considered "original" by NCRS when installed on 61-Early Corvette production cars. The reinforced rib design was used on all 441/442 horns beginning mid-61 Corvette production. Horns with "ribbed" cover, but without stamped date means the horn is correct for late production 1961 and early production 1962 corvettes. In mid-1962 Corvette horns received another running change. Delco began date stamping each 441/442 horn with the horn assembly date. This was a 3-digit code which identified the YEAR-MONTH-WEEK of horn assembly. The only 441/442 horns to appear with a stamped Delco assembly date were installed on the assembly line in Late 1962 Corvette production. An understanding of these features and time frames is necessary in order to determine the correct "original" 441/442 application for 61/62 Corvette restoration purposes. Finally, in addition to the above features, the listed horns have L shaped brackets which conform to the NCRS description for 441/442 horns installed on the factory assembly line. Most importantly, all "original" 61-62 441/442 horn brackets were spot welded to the horn body, a feature only present on assembly line horns. This contrasts with GM Parts Department replacement horns which had bolt-on horn brackets. Bolt-on brackets are not credited as "original" under NCRS judging standards because only weld-on brackets were installed on the 61-62 Corvette assembly line. Installation Note To Restorers: The NCRS 1961-62 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, P.95 states that Horn #441 (low note) is installed on the driver/left side of the car, and Horn #442 high note) is installed on the passenger/left side of the car. This is "contrary to the AIM" (Assembly Information Manual) which is incorrect. This is a mint original refurbished DELCO HORN #441/442 set. Buyer satisfaction is guaranteed, and Seller's policy is that return for any reason will be accepted within 14 days. Buyer responsible for cost of return shipping. In addition, a 1 year replacement/refund guarantee of correct operation is included with this listing. This guarantee covers electrical operation only and does not apply to horns which are inoperable due to any physical damage after installation. Seller has been a Corvette owner, enthusiast and restorer since 1963, and does not represent GM, Corvette or NCRS.
