That's me some 82 years ago Amen, the movie show is over and I still haven't had any popcorn. =============== Very easy to grow and relatively disease and pest free ... almost carefree except for watering and receiving some tlc. This plant is NOT WINTER hardy and will be lost if temp goes below 32 degrees. When your order arrives please don't fret about getting the cuttings immediately into water or soil or rooting medium … as it is best to let the open flesh cuts air dry and start a callusing process which most succulents require before you stick them into rooting medium. Please don't expect 3 carbon copies of cuttings identical to each other in shape and form. Mother Nature doesn't permit that in her shipping room. There will cuttings of rounded stem, flat and wide blade leaf/stem, and even odd shaped cuttings such as triangle or square shape ... this plant has its own mind when growing new plant shoots. =============== Living a fine life involving outdoor and indoor plants and have been gardening since I was 3 years old and now at age 84, I have decided to make available some plant material and or heirloom seeds from my gardens over the years so you may also enjoy and propagate and pass on to your friends and family much shared enjoyment. This is an interesting Red Orchid Cactus and it has been handed down in our family since 1905 and you can see from the large 6 to 8 inch blooms and large buds it is an exciting and rewarding plant to grow and own and maybe show off to your special friends. It can be maintained at most any size .. but what you see sitting on the white bucket, for me, would be an ideal plant. Easy to have outside as well as inside near a sunny window in winter time. I am sure it is a relative or member of the genus Epiphyllum of plants… growing up as little gardeners all we ever knew it by was -'Great Uncle Frank's Red Cactus' - and it's only a coincidence that my name is also Frank. I was given a stem cutting back in 2005 of one of the plants off of the original plant. So, the oldest plant pictured here is about 13 or 14 years old. Other pictures show various clones of the 2005 plant Reproducing a plant from stem tissue is termed 'cloning' or asexual reproduction as nothing genetically changes and pollen from other plants have no effect on the original genetic make up of new plant produced. Environmental and nutritional stresses as well as the owner's tlc will affect any plant's growth, color of bloom and on and on. =============== Thank you for visiting my listing and if you have any questions please message me ... please note i do combine separate items/orders into one package and a refund of unused postal charges will be refunded. Feel free to email me with any concern or questions you might have …since we can't do it over coffee … lets do it via messages/emails =============== I define a cutting as being a STUB cutting when it can be planted deep into pot and as it grows more medium is added until the stub cutting is not visible and only the multiples of new shoot growth is visible above the soil ... for me a stub cutting eliminated the, sometimes, unsightly portion of a stem or inter-nodal cutting which will be visible until the pot is grown to point where the old/starter cutting scar is not visible … with ‘tip’ cuttings there is no flat cut and thus the tip just keeps growing ... some folks care less ... but, i like to see multiple growth points without the mother cutting scar showing ... planting this type of cutting is similar in final appearance to how a tulip or other bulb types are visible after growing. When the cuttings gets firmly rooted there will be basal shoots poking their tips above the soil line … so, it is best to fill the container with growing medium as the new growth appears and later (often within the first year) the basal shoots will just poke on up through the pot full of growing medium similar to how asparagus spears show up in the springtime. Each cutting has a black line on it as to mark the first initial fill level of growing medium or water if rooting in water and rain water preferred which i prefer water (and especially rain water over any other water) over rooting medium … so … plant deep … directions will be enclosed with cuttings =====================================================
