Produced in his rookie season of 2001, this Autographed parallel features: - Game Used Base from Pujols FIRST CAREER HOME RUN on April 6, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona vs the Diamondbacks - Vintage 2001 Rookie autograph, distinctive from all other eras of Pujols signature evolution. Certified by Leaf at production, then certified again by Beckett at grading, receiving a perfect 10 grade. - SSP of only 50 made; TEN TIMES as rare as the Bowman Chrome. (See pic showing Beckett stated print run) - Pictured in his Major League uniform, wearing the only digit he’s ever worn in MLB: 5. Bowman Chrome by comparison used an Arizona Fall League picture with Pujols wearing #36. - Beyond being his first home run game, this was the turning point in Pujols MLB career. His first game saw his first hit, but after three games it was still his only hit. He was batting .111. His OPS was .222. Before that he had but 3 games at AAA, batting .214. His success thus far was at A ball and the AAA postseason. Pujols answer: - Pujols got not only his first Home Run, but also his first Double, RBI (3), Run Scored (2), and 3-hit game. He began a 13 game hitting streak with 2 more 3-hit games. Over his next 36 games, he would have 54 hits, 32 Runs, 8 Doubles, his first triple, 14 Home Runs, 44 RBI, 4 HBP, 3 SF, 1 ROE and 17 BB, with only 22 strikeouts. He would go hitless only 3 times, with either a walk or RBI in each. He hit .394 with a 1.240 OPS. He played every game. - Of the very few varieties of cards produced that have Game Used Base swatches from this game, this is the only one depicting Albert batting. This particular card was the third Beckett graded, with four cards grading higher. None of this card’s subgrades are lower than the overall grade of 8.5, rather, as it has only higher subgrades of 9, 9.5 and 10, it is one of if not the highest subgraded amongst those of the same overall 8.5 grade.
