Description: Dominican amber is the source of amber for which the movie series Jurassic Park (World)was based upon with the supposed mosquito providing fragmented dinosaur DNA.Dominican fossil amber is known for the clarity of its inclusions including such things as insects, arachnids, and botanicals. This is authentic, untreated amber from the Dominican Republic. This is a parcel of five (5) polished amber fossils from the amber mines in the Dominican Republic that contain a variety of fossil flies from an ancient tropical rain forest. One piece has a very nice fat fly, possibly from the Family Phoridae. The pieces weigh a total of 3.7 g and have approximate lengths between 1 and 2 cm each (2.5 cm is approximately 1 inch). I hand-sand and fully polish the majority of amber pieces I offer, these pieces from rough originating from the Dominican Republic. Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink. However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink.
