5-3/4" San Francisco Golden Gate California Antique Sterling Souvenir Spoon Cal.

Description: This is a really nice antique large, heavy sterling silver souvenir spoon from around 1910 or so. French gray, which is hard to find. Usually looks darker and not shiny, and often has gold highlights, as this one does. Very pretty. The bowl is embossed with an image of the famous "Golden Gate" entrance to San Francisco Bay, pre-bridge, which opened in the 1930's. It shows Fort Point to the left and a lighthouse to the right. It has a detailed California state handle, front and back. It is about 5-3/4" long and heavy for its size, about 30.0 grams, over an ounce of sterling silver. Maker's marks: "Sterling" with the old hallmark for Mayer & Bros., a popular American company back then that made really nice souvenir spoons, most with Western US themes. Engraving: None.
