Description: Please see full description for details. 45 Art Deco Celebrity Charcoal Portrait Sketch Autograph Lot By Dorothy Lovell Fabulous estate fresh vintage 1930's artist's portfolio collection lot of original hand drawn celebrity portraits by Dorothy Lovell. Many of the pieces are hand signed by the celebrity subjects. Lot includes everything pictured: 45 original charcoal type portrait sketches, 2 small watercolor landscapes, a 1955 hand written letter from Swedish actor Lars Hanson, and a binder with photo reproductions of WWII soldier sketches (one of the originals is in the National Library of New Zealand). Most of the dated pieces are from the 1930's to early 1940's. 16 of the pieces are hand autographed by the celebrities they depict. Celebrity signatures are on the actual sketch or on the surrounding matting. Some autographed pieces include: Marc Platoff (ballet dancer), Donald Cook (actor), Maurica Evans (actor), Sydney Granville (singer / actor), Paul Haakon (ballet dancer), William Dollar (ballet dancer), Maurice Evans (actor), Dalies Frantz (pianist), Philip Merivale (actor), Gladys Cooper (actress), Katharine Cornell (actress), Jose Iturbi (conductor / pianist), and more. Little is known about the artist Dorthy Lovell. We are uncertain if these works are by Dorthy Ann Lovell who was an author and illustrator. Largest sketches measure 9 1/8" x 11", smallest measure 4 3/4" x 5". Lot is in excellent overall condition with light evidence of age. Most pieces appear excellent and well kept.
