Vols. 1 & 2 were published in 1861, and Vols. 3 & 4 were published in 1862. Each large octavo volume has approx. 600 pages with portraits, maps and diagrams. This partial set belonged to journalist/reporter (apparently), believed to be editor-in-chief of "The World" (Goggle info). Vol. 1 has a long handwritten piece inside front and rear covers, dated, Morning, Nov.8,1864, Day of Presidential Election, and ends with God Guide Me, Jas.R.Spalding. Vol. 2 is signed, Mrs. Spalding. Vol. 3, signed James R.Spalding, Brooklyn, Sept.1, 1862, Day of Great Battles before Washington. Vol. 4 Signed J.R.Spalding, April 8, 1864 (?) & Grant's Battles in Virginia. Pictorial green pebbled cloth covers with gilt decoration. All copies in Very Good+ condition.
