Description: “Task Force” ~ 4 Piece ~ Die Cast ~ 1974 “Task Force” 1974 Military Set Tank ~ Jeep ~ Soldiers Midgetoy Salesman Sample ~ Card & Blister Set This carded, 4-piece Die Cast set was made and packaged by Midgetoy, Rockford, Illinois. The 9 by 5 ¼ inch, colorful, detailed card it’s mounted on, has typical graphics of 1960’s & 70’s merchandising. The clear, hard plastic blister is slightly yellowed, but is subtle and completely intact. It was sealed onto the card, holding the toys in place, at the factory over a half century ago. Slightly warped, but it is not fragile and the card can be flattened out. Midgetoy carefully selected 4 of their own, popular Toys for this play assortment. The set contains the Midgetoy Army Tank, the Army Jeep and 2 plastic soldiers with weapons. All die cast wheeled toys painted Army Olive Drab. It also contains 2 plastic soldiers with weapons, both made from plastic. Dated 1974, this was a very popular set for the kids. None of the Die Cast companies were making war toys. They weren’t that popular in this era because of the Vietnam war. Military toys from this era are hard to find. In the late 1990’s, we bought out all of Midgetoys unsold merchandise both in the factory and their warehouse. We moved it all directly to our warehouse. Back in 1998, I was sitting in Al and Earl Herdklotz office (They are the brothers that started and ran Midgetoy), working out some of the details of the buy-out deal and listening to the never-ending stories about different toys, or large customers, Antidotes, machine problems, etc. I always enjoyed hearing all their stories of how things came to be. Al had a few cards of misc. carded, blistered sets setting on his desk with tags on each one, with weight, size, shipping and cost info on the tags. He looked at each tag and casually tossed the whole card into a box at the end of his desk and grabbed the next card. I asked him, “What is that box of sets for?” He replied that those were sets that the salesmen took out when they called on customers who expressed an interest in them, so they could see them, hold them, etc. Over a Half Century Old! Most have slightly warped or minor curved back cards from the patina of age, handling and use that they fulfilled. I asked what he was going to do with them, he replied, “I think Earl takes the tags off and takes them to a Sunday Flea Market. I said to throw them in with the deal, with the tags on, they said “sure”, and added yet another line to the 12 page tally sheet. They didn’t have any computers. Everything was done by hand. No tears, no rips, or serious folds. It’s what you would expect from a factory sample. It is the set in the photographs. Other than age and handling patina and as noted, they are in Perfect Condition. Each set also includes a “Certificate of Authenticity”, signed by Al & Earl Herdklotz. There were about 2 dozen different sets in the box (See photos above). We will be trickling them out 1 or 2 sets per month, in our eBay store, “Colini”, time willing. If you like this type of “One of a Kind” items, please search our eBay Store, “Colini”. For search purposes, we will be using the word “Midgetoy” in each card’s description in our eBay Store called “Colini”. 7411P
