These inscriptions symbolically form a stylized symbol of the euro sign “€”. The other central motif is Croatia’s distinctive and recognisable symbol, the checkerboard, which represents part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
