🇬🇧 2002 Ashton Sovereign XXX Billiard - Straight Grain Restored by Dad’s Pipes

Description: THE LAST PRECIOUS FEW PIPES After listing my forty year pipe collection, it’s time to part with the favorites - Ashtons by Bill Taylor, Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end collectible pieces. Any of these that don’t sell, I will keep. Beautiful 2002 Ashton Sovereign XXX Billiard pipe with nice straight grain. Genuine Bill Taylor made w/ deep black ASHTONITE mouthpiece in MINT CONDITION except for professional repair of cracked shank. JUST WAS PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED BY CHARLES LEMON OF DAD’S PIPES See his expensive Facebook post and Blog post about this extensive restoration. This piece is special and RARE in that it is dated 2002 and straight grains are so rare. The STRAIGHT GRAIN of the pipe is outstanding. Check out the grain on all sides the bowl and shank. Dunhill would be jealous! It has a deep black ashtonite stem. Unfortunately this pipe, which would ordinarily value out at $400 or so dollars, was dropped, which caused a break in the shank along a natural fault line in the briar. It was a clean break and could have been repaired invisibly by adding a long silver band and cutting off the damaged portion. However, that would’ve obscured the nomenclature and proportions of the pipe would’ve been altered. So I elected to send the pipe to one of the most skilled repair folks I’ve ever worked with - Charles Lemon in Canada. Charles is particularly skilled at intricate pipe repair. He glued the pipe together with hyper strong epoxy reinforced by an internal composite tube. There is a thin line where the glue is visible. But it has all been sanded smooth and refinished perfectly, and will give excellent service over the life of the pipe - better than butchering it. Other than the repair there are no scratches, dents, shop wear, rim char, excessive cake and teeth marks. The pipe is in EXCELLENT condition. It was always and gently smoked with Best Brown Burley and BPC, and English style tobacco. From 1983-2005 The Ashton Pipe company creator Bill Taylor made WONDERFUL looking and incredible English briars that are so fabulously good smokers, thus highly collectible to this day. And we Ashton fans know that Bill Taylor Era pipes are special.
