Description: Two Koala Prints"Koala" and "Ambassadors"by Charles Frace "Koala" (1979) Image Size: 25 3/4" x 20" Paper Size: 30" x 24"Signed only edition of 2000 "Ambassadors" (1990)* Image Size: 19" x 21" Paper Size: 23" x 25"Print #734/2000** Special Edition for the Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species. From the 1979 print fact sheet: The Koala is without a doubt one of the most popular animals. The cuddly bear is an arboreal marsupial found only in eastern Australia. Koalas are also nocturnal and are very skillful climbers having powerful limbs.Growing to about 28 inches in length, they get to be about 30 pounds, at maturity. The Koala feeds only on eucalyptus leaves and out of over 300 eucalyptus species, it eats from less than twenty. At one time Koalas were nearly extinct due to forest fires, uncontrolled shooting, disease, and fur hunters desiring their thick, soft, silver-gray coat. Strict laws and reintroduction of the species to certain areas has remedied the situation. A colony of Koalas thrive in the San Diege Zoo, the only zoo in the world to have the animals. Research for the painting was done at this zoo. (Written in 1979)From the 1990 Certificate of Authenticity: The Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus adustus) is unique in many ways. It is the only member of its biological famnily; It is found in the wild only in eastern Australia; and it feeds only on eucalyptus laeaves, and only those of a few specific types....
