He was also an active political commentator and an advocate for the League of Nations. He was a protege of Henri Bergson. Starting in 1912, and almost continuously until his death, Thibaudet was a regular contributor of articles in the Nouvelle Revue Francaise (commonly known by the acronym NRF). Thibaudet taught at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and was a co-founder of the Geneva School of literary criticism. He was a teacher of Jean Rousset, a major figure in that School. In 2008, the Thucydides Centre (a research institute of the Paris Pantheon-Assas University) inaugurated the "Albert Thibaudet Prize" awarded to a French language writer on international relations. The NRF was started in 1909 by a group of intellectuals (Andre Gide, Jacques Copeau, and Jean Schlumberger) in opposition to more traditional cultural institutions such as the Academie Francaise. Starting in 1911, Gaston Gallimard was the editor of the NRF and founded the publishing house Editions Galllimard. The NRF was France's leading literary journal in the years between the two World Wars. During and after World War II, a new journal, l'Arche, gained the favor of General Charles de Gaulle (leader of Free France). In fact, the NRF was banned from 1944 to 1953 for "collaborationism". When it resumed, the magazine altered its name to La Nouvelle Nouvelle Revue Francaise. The NRF continues to be published as a quarterly.
