It sold 1 million copies and is hailed as his best work. Interestingly, it was banned in some Eastern block countries and burned by the Nazis. The hardcover book is beautifully illustrated by Philip R. Goodwin and Charles Livingston Bull. Decorated by Chas. Edw. Hooper. Sound binding with medium bumping to all four corners. Previous 2 owners names and dates (1903 & 1990) and the name of the lady who gifted it (also in 1903) in fountain pen. Fraying to head of spine and softening/small chips to tail. Some mild rubbing to cover and spine decoration. Some foxing to endpapers; edge toning to title page. All the beautiful colour plates are present. It is a valuable and nice original copy, not a reproduction.
