Description: Offered here is a very interesting watercolor image of four men in the process of collecting alms for some cause that I have been unable to determine. The man on the left is extending the alms bowl; the second man holds a flag and the alms bag; the third man is carrying another banner of some type and a bedroll and is playing a recorder, I think; and the fourth person appears to be a young man playing a drum. Two of the men wear interesting green robes of some sort. The flag and the alms bag are in red and appear to have an image of a white eagle on both. There is a cross on the top of the flag pole. I have been unable to read the last word of the pencil-written legend below the image. The first words read "Alms for the" and the last word, which might help me understand what the picture relates to, is illegible to me. I hope that some eBayer will be able to clarify what organization the alms collectors represent and who they are collecting for. I believe that the scrapbook that this came from was British in origin and the drawing may be as well, since on the reverse of the scrapbook page there are two ink writings that refer to two missing ink drawings, both of which refer to places in the Lake District of northern England: Derwant Water CumberlandKeswick Lake CumberlandThe dimensions of the watercolor are: height 4 1/4 inches (watercolor image), 7 1/4 inches (brown backing sheet); width 8 3/4 inches (watercolor image), 11 inches (brown backing sheet). This watercolor is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Please read the condition description carefully and review the photographs. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. I do my best to accurately describe the items being sold, but if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
