Description: Antique Japanese Lacquer Jubako Stacked Box Edo Era Maki-e Four Tier XIX Century This antique Japanese Jubako box is an exquisite piece of lacquer art from the Edo Era. The four-tiered stackable box is made of lacquer and gilt, with black and gold on the exterior and the red interior. This is a 4 tier Jubako box that was traditionally used for serving food during special occasions. This particular box has several silver or metal small nails/tacks in various areas in irregular formation that could have been used as a Braille reading or perhaps as a message during war. I have never seen this in a Japanese lacquer before. Condition: Very good condition, minor scuffs. Has several metal, possibly silver small braille-like tacks on it throughout-possibly used by a blind person?
