THIS LOVELY BOX IS IN NICE ESTATE CONDITION. THERE IS SOME MISSING TRIM AROUND THE CENTER MEDALLION AND ONE MINOR STRESS CRACK ON THE BACK (SEE PHOTOS) - NO OTHER NOTED DAMAGE. MEASURES 1 1/4" HIGH, 2 7/8" LONG AND 2 3/4" WIDE.I ORIGINALLY BELIEVED THIS FRAME TO BE ENGLISH TUNBRIDGE WARE BUT A COLLECTOR INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS ITALIAN MICRO-MOSAIC "SORRENTO WARE" EVIDENCED BY THE USE OF COLORED TESSERAE AS THIS WAS COMMONLY USED BY THE SORRENTO MAKERS BUT WAS NOT USED BY THE TUNBRIDGE WARE MAKERS WHO USED ONLY NATURAL WOODS WITHOUT DYE OR STAINING. BOTH WARES WERE MADE DURING THE 19th CENTURY. PLEASE USE YOUR OWN JUDGMENT AS TO THE ACCURACY OF THIS ATTRIBUTION.
