Description: Rare catlinite ceremonial smoking pipe circa late 19th century. The stem had raised bands throughout and a t-shaped bowl. Most likely Sioux / Lakota in origin. The mouthpiece has a very interesting octagonal design. One repair made to the t-bowl as it had been broken in the past which is common to these types of bowls. Other than that great condition overall with only minor defects, see photos. Catlinite, also called Pipestone, is the name given to the Redstone that was mined in the now protected quarries outside of Pipestone, Minnesota. Measures 28.5” Bowl height 4.5”
