A "Provisional Issue" until new notes could be printed, it was issued in 1990. In February of 1967 the old “Cruzeiro” denomination of Brazil was superseded by the Cruzeiro "Novo" at the rate of 1000 of the old to 1 of the new. The notes were redesigned beginning in 1970 and the "Novo" part of the name was dropped. In February of 1986 the new “Cruzeiro” denomination was superseded by the “Cruzado” again at the rate of 1000 of the old to 1 of the new. In January of 1989 the “Cruzado” was replaced, once again at 1000 to 1 by the new Cruzado "Novo". In a departure from the previous practice, in March of 1990 the "Cruzado Novo" was replaced by the Cruzeiro but this time at the rate of 1 to 1.
