Description: THE STONE HAWK A Miss Pink Mystery Written by Gwen Moffat and published by St. Martin’s Press, New York. Copyright 1989; “First U.S. Edition” is stated on the copyright pages with the one being present in the numberline. The book is inscribed to a reader and dated (1989) on the title page by the author. Also there is an 8 1/2 x 11 photocopy of Gwen Moffat’s publications—a bibliography—upon the back of which Gwen Moffat has handwritten a note. The note is NOT a photocopy. I can’t make out all the words or the meaning, but I have provided a picture of it so you might try to figure it out yourself. The note will stay with the book. From Wikipedia: Gwen Moffat (née Goddard; born 3 July 1924) is a British climber and writer. Moffat was a free spirit who loved and lived the Bohemian lifestyle through the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, making a living from climbing, and becoming the first female British guide. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, she was closely associated with the RAF Mountain Rescue Service in North Wales and helped train many young airmen, once she had agreed to wear boots! She described her life in her classic autobiography Space Below My Feet. She subsequently went on to write detective fiction, in particular the Miss Pink series featuring Melinda Pink, a middle aged magistrate and climber. From the dust jacket description: “ “Miss Melinda Pink, intrepid rock climber, gothic writer, and people observer, is awestruck by her first glimpse of the majestic Utah canyon country where she is to spend a month renting a cabin from a friend of a friend. But she’s soon brought back to earth by the undercurrents of tension among the close-knit inhabitants of Salvation Canyon. When Birdie, a young half-Indian girl, disappears, her body found in a nearby river soon afterward, the tension explodes to the surface. Accusations fly and alibis quickly materialize as the redoubtable Miss Pink does what she does best, discerning who has the most to hide. The stakes are raised when a second child—one far less lovable than Birdie—goes missing, and Miss Pink must mine the depths of depravity and scale heights of duplicity (literally, too) before the shaking conclusion is reached.” DESCRIPTION: 224 pages 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches Signed, First printing, hardcover with dustjacket CONDITION: This hard-cover book is in near condition with a very good dustjacket. The blue cloth cover is very clean and shows only slight wear at the corners and spine ends. The interior is excellent with no names (other than the author’s inscription), marks, underlining, tears or odor. The hinges and binding are excellent with no loose or missing pages. The dustjacket is very attractive, but has a few small tears (one 3/4 inch, one 1/2”, the rest less than 1/4”) along the edges which have been stabilized on the back with acid-free archival tissue tape. There is some rubbing of the edges near the corners and spine end areas. The little tears in the top front edge had caused a crease to form above the author’s name. The price is intact on the front flap. BECAUSE MEDIA RATE SHIPPING IS FREE ON THE BOOKS I SELL, COMBINE THIS WITH OTHER ITEMS FROM MY EBAY STORE.
