Description: π₯π₯π₯π₯1988 Hall of Famer (HOF) BERNARD KING of the Washington Bullets Starting Lineup/Rookie SLU/οΏΌNEVER OPENED/βNEWβ/FACTORY SEALED. Includes collectorβs card. Short production run. This one is getting hotter by the minute. Don't miss out! π₯ππ₯ππ₯ππ₯ππ₯ππ₯ππ₯ This is the very first year for Basketball Starting Lineups, so they were all considered βrookie β action figures/dolls/SLUβs. In 1988 Kenner produced an amazing 124 National Basketball Association action figures, by far the largest number of NBA players for any year. Every NBA team was represented. Because so many were produced, these remained on the shelf (or on the pegboard more accurately) for months and months. It wasn't long before, however, starting lineups flew off the pegs, as they became hotter and hotter. By contrast, Kenner only made five basketball βregularβ Starting Lineups in 1989. All of those were for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets. More interesting, production runs by player in 1988 were very uneven, so players like Jeff Malone, Reggie Miller, Rodney McCray and Sam Perkins became much harder to find, were considered rare, and, thus, more valuable. Even more interesting, the entire Utah Jazz team had a very short production run, so John Stockton, Thurl Bailey and Mark Eaton were hot commodities at trade shows/baseball card shows/sports memorabilia shows (take your pick). As a result, Olympian and Hall of Famer Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz, became, by far, the most valuable of all the starting lineups, and remains so today. Kenner basketball SLUβs always came in red packaging, so you could distinguish them from the blue baseball and green football SLUβs. They were considered toys for all ages and the packages were always marked either ages four & up or ages 4-104. They soon became collectors items, however, and most stopped thinking of them as simply toys. Original owner for 35 years in smoke free, kid free home. Package is in excellent condition, HOWEVER, there is relatively small amount of yellowing of the plastic enclosing the card and the figurine. Be sure to examine all photos closely, as they are an integral part of the description. I have tried to show any minor wear and tear in the photos. Colors and shapes of product may be somewhat distorted due to camera lighting and angles. Imagine the joy I had each year discovering SLU βs in KB Toys, Walmarts and Toys R Us. Eventually, I discovered long since forgotten sports memorabilia shows at convention centers and halls. Really hard to part with my collection!
