1980 Vintage Texaco Havoline Oil Can Coin Bank / Piggy Bank

Description: This coin bank, manufactured as a promotional item from an authentic brand new Texaco Havoline Supreme 10W-40 oil can manufactured in 1980 is in excellent original unused condition. This item was intended to be a coin bank from the get-go, so it never hold oil but, other than the coin slot in the top, this is in every way identical to a similarly labeled can of Texaco motor oil sold at gas stations and auto parts stores at the time. Texaco and other oil companies offered banks like this from time to time over a period of quite a few years so they are not super rare but finding one as nice as this one is might be a challenge. The down side of this coin bank is that there is no bottom plug and, just like real oil cans (because that actually is what it is) the lid is not removable except by using a can opener. Also, the coin slot is really thin so, if you're going to actually use this as a coin bank, you're not going to be able to shake your coins back out through the slot like you might be able to do with some other piggy banks. That said, you probably could use a hole saw to put a hole in the bottom and fit it with a plug, but that would take away from the originality of the item. This is an original, not a reproduction. I think earlier originals had embossed tops showing the SAE and/or API rating without the red and blue graphics. Recent reproductions I've seen lack the graphics and have stepped tops, some of them even say "Bank" or "Savings" or something like that. Those are still pretty cool but, if you're a stickler for originality, here's the oil can bank for you. I typically ship within one day of payment.
