Description: Up for sale, a 1978 Mesa Boogie Mark II 1x15” combo in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This early 100 watt example of the iconic, pioneering Mesa Boogie Mark II is a particularly rare variant with a larger cabinet to accommodate a 15" speaker, loaded with a JBL K130 driver. The JBL speaker is incredibly efficient, offering tons of clean headroom, detail and power for quintessential Mesa cleans and rich, focused overdrive. A wide range of versatile, vital tones are easily accessed via the deceptively simple control configuration. There’s a natural fatness and punch to the sound, engineered to complement just about any pickup you throw at it, and dialing up the higher gain settings yields a harmonically-complex, unrelenting distortion. The clean/gain channels can be toggled back and forth with an external footswitch (not included), a feature introduced via this very amp and now widely considered industry standard. Controls include Volume 1, Master 1, Lead Drive, and Lead Master knobs, with Pull Bright, Pull Shift, Gain Boost, Pull Lead, and Pull Bright (Lead) push/pull controls, as well as a three-band EQ and Reverb control. There is also a 60/100 watt switch, defeating two of the power tubes in 60 watt mode. The Presence control is on the back panel, along with the Slave Level knob. The circuit features original transformers manufactured by Schumacher, dating to 1978. The CTS pots have visible date codes from the 29th week of '77, and the chassis is hand-dated November, 1978. The tube complement comprises a quad of Tung Sol 6L6 power tubes and JJ valves in the preamp. The JBL K130 alnico magnet speaker easily handles the power of the circuit, with a JBL 58057 speaker cone. The original blonde tolex is well-kept with some small tears and scuffs on the enclosure edges, and the original wheat grillcloth is also present. The faceplate graphics are clean, and all of the original knobs are present. The nickel-plated lower corners exhibit modest patina, and the bottom of the enclosure has large rubber feet (casters were at one time installed).
