This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1974 Press General view of the Mayo Hill on State Road 476A in Florida Brooksville - In 1851 when Frank Ederington and Anderson Mayo decided to come to Hernando County from South Carolina on prospecting journey, they had to travel by boat, stage coach, rented rig and on foot for three weeks to make the 450-mile trip. When they landed in that hilly portion of Florida, they decided to stay. Ederington chose land on a hill, which later became known' as Chinsegut Hill, but Mayo decided to settle three miles to the northwest on "Tiger Tail" hill, as it was dubbed by the Indians. Mayo had picked one of the highest elevations in the state. Mayo Hill on State Road 476A, commonly known as Snow Hill after the Snow family. Photo measures 2.5 x 2 inches. Photo Is dated 1974.
