Description: OriginalDELCO REMY horn removed from a 1973 Corvette. Casting #9000-032. Assembly date is "2 J 1". This horn has been tested and works with the correct mid-range sound. This is the first year to utilize a single horn. Many Corvette fans have described it as sounding like a sick cow.The sound is a result of the 1973 Corvette production changeto a single note front hornfrom the dual high-low-note horn system used in Corvettes before 1973. It is part of Corvette lore that1973 Corvetteowners often replaced the single original factory #9000-032 with a set of high/low note horns as used on pre-73 Corvettes. Once removed, the original singe horn was very often simply discarded because restoration was not a consideration in those days. This listing offers an original #9000-032 to buyers who seek to restore their 1973 Corvette to the original factory horn configuration of a single front horn. An "original" assembly line Delco Remy horn is easily identified because it has a spot welded bracket designed specifically for installation on the 1973 Corvette. DELCO welded bracket horns were used only on the factory assembly line for the intended car of that year. A replacement Delco #9000-032 horn was also availiable at the GM Parts Department and aftermarket NOS parts sources. However, the GM replacement horn is not considered an "original" part for restoration purposes beause it has a bolt on bracket, and an assembly date which is not within the car production year. GM Parts Department utilzed a bolt-on bracket to simplify replacement horns. For efficiency reasons the generic horn body #9000 was supplied to cover various GM car lines by stamping the correct car-line suffix ID# after the casting number 9000. Asimple bolt on bracket was then used depending on the car line, and sometimes did not match the original bracket for a given GM car line. The GM Parts Department horn is therwise "correct" in appearance and function and uses the same part #. However, the non welded bracket on an NOS horn from GM Parts Department is not accepted by National Corvette Restorers Society judging as an 'original " horn. A replacement is not identical as installed on the assembly line due to the bracket, and also the assembly date would be inconsistent with the 1973 production year. Thus only an "original" with welded bracket and production year assembly date is acceptable for full credit on originality. This listing offers an excellent condition correct welded-bracket originalfactory installed 12-voltDELCO REMY horn. Casting #9000-032 is shown on the flange, with a horn build date of "2 J 1" which is 1972/October/1. This date indicates the horn would be correct for 1973 Corvettes produced in the first 6 months of 1973 Corvette production. This isan original refurbished DELCO HORN #9000-032.
