Shell Oil Company - This is Shell Oil's Platform D in the West Delta Block 105 field. A master control computer is located on this platform which is part of the system along with four slave units in four nearby platforms. These five platforms produce some 10,000 barrels of oil and 50 million cubic feet of gas per day and each is equipped with generated power and gas compressors. Oil production from the wells is artificially lifted by gas. Each platform has an individual safety shutdown system that is independent of supervisory control giving the field a dual safety system. Shell is conducting a feasibility study for the further application of computer control in offshore operations based on the experiences at these platforms offshore and similar ones onshore.
