Description: Handsome fold-out 1971 Chevron road map of the western portion of Contra Costa County, California, printed more than 53 years ago. The map opens to 18" x 41" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by H.M. Gousha. The coverage area includes Antioch, Clayton, Concord, El Cerrito, Hercules, Lafayette, Martinez, Pinole, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill, Richmond, San Pablo, Walnut Creek and adjoining communities. The map was distributed by the Standard Oil Company of California in 1971 to promote its Chevron gasoline and is dated in the legend. The code number in the lower margin is 8-SS. The front cover shows a Chevron gas pump labeled "F-310" — the company's trademark for its polybutene amine gasoline additive. Condition: The map is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with minor wear along the top fold, a tiny hole, and no marks or writing.
