Rider Haggard. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrappers. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. Fictional character, Allan Quatermain, an English hunter of big-game, appears in many of Haggard's novels, with the heroic protagonist being portrayed in film adaptations by actors including Patrick Swayze, Sean Connery and Richard Chamberlain. Comprised of 'Allan and The Ice-Gods' and 'Heu-Heu or The Monster', first published in 1927 and 1924, respectively. Both novels feature Haggard's popular character, Allan Quatermain. In 'Allan and The Ice-Gods', the story follows Quatermain's adventures in a past life, set in Stone-Age times. The idea for this novel was given to Haggard by friend and fellow author, Rudyard Kipling. 'Heu-Heu or The Monster' is a story told by Allan Quatermain, surrounding a legend about a giant gorilla monster in Rhodesia, to which young women are sacrificed.
